Spice Rack Organization?

This is my attempt at organization of a spice rack:

Wait, get a little closer and you’ll see my secret tool (that I don’t think my husband has ever noticed):

Um-hmmm… I LOVE masking tape for labeling. And I thought if I labeled the shelves, others would join in my alphabetizing mission. I initially put everything on the right shelf and labeled away. And, well, it has mostly stayed that way, but those shelves are still quite a mess.

My plan kind of works, but you can see how some of the containers are still crammed in there in a major balancing act.

So my questions, dear readers, are these….

Who else is a spice alphabetizer? Or how else do you organize your spices? And how, in the world, did I end up with so many spices?

Ya got any wisdom out there to share???

Try grouping them together by types or groupings (all the Italian seasoning, holiday spices, peppers) maybe even have a shelf for favorites (most used)

  2. I was supposed to be finished the Bible last October. I still am not finished, but I am still reading, thanks to you, I have not given up, even though I didn’t eet the schedule.

  3. I suggest you remove them from their original container and transfer them to spice storage container – containers that are small, clear (so you can see inside), you can label, & you can stack-up (to save space).

  4. Wow! That’s a lot of spice! I only have those I use and they tend to lose their flavor after a few months, although most of my spices are MUCH older (like when we first got married 10 years ago older!). I labeled the top of mine with circle labels made on the computer. It makes it faster for me to find them and I keep them in a basket in the pantry. I used to set them out because they looked really cute, but once the kids came along it was just too much temptation!

I am learning to let go of the spices I never use. ;) Less spices overall means less to organize! Mine are just stored in a plastic lasagna-sized container. I pull it out from the cupboard while cooking so that I can access everything and then put it back when I’m done. That won’t work for you though as it looks like you use a lot more spices than I do!

Let me know if you discover the secret! :) :)

    1. I think paring down might be an answer… even if I could just cut out one shelf’s worth!!
