Excuses, excuses. Luke 14

Hi there! I hope you are enjoying this read through Luke and are hearing God’s voice speaking to you. If you are using the SOAP devotional format, what do you think about it? If you aren’t what are you using to record your thoughts and prayers?

Our reading for today is Luke 14.

Here is what I heard:

Scripture: Luke 14:18

But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

Observation:

Everyone was too busy to attend the banquet to which they had been invited. They all had good excuses, but they still were not good enough.

Application:

Do I make excuses for not following God or doing as instructed? What are my excuses? How can I circumvent them and be sure to serve first and do all else after that?

Prayer:

Lord, please continue guiding me as I reevaluate, set and follow my priorities. I want my to do list to reflect your plan for my life. I have such a hard time, though. So many seemingly good things pop right in the way and compete for my efforts.

Please, Lord, guide me in hearing your direction, following it and not making excuses for ‘one more thing’ before you. I really need your help here with clarity.

I don’t want to make excuses. I want to follow you and your plan. Please show me how.

Yes, I see Luke 14 with a subtitle of “No Excuses, No Limitations.” Thanks for heading this journey through Luke. It’s blessed my December.
