His timing is perfect

John 12:16

At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.

Observation: The disciples did not realize all the pieces to the puzzle. Even though they physically walked with Jesus and heard his undeniable voice, they didn’t fully understand all he was explaining until his resurrection.

Application: The disciples, like me, are human and fallen. They did not understand all Jesus was explaining. And they did not need to. All of that was part of God’s perfect plan.

It frustrates me when I hear people question how the disciples could not have understood Jesus’ full identity. Sure, they were there and got the physical experience, but they did not have hindsight. And God revealed to them just what they needed to know each step of the way. Had they known the whole picture, how might they have interfered? Then where would we be?!

Prayer: Oh Heavenly Father, thank you for your guidance and love. Thank you for teaching me and showing me what you know I need to know and nothing more. You have the master plan. It is my job to listen and follow and you will reveal what I need at the perfect time.  Thank you for showing me that this morning. Please remind me of this when I get frustrated and confused. Pull me closer so I will remember only you have the master plan.

  1. I’m so glad that the descriptions of the disciple’s failures are in the Bible! Can you imagine how hard it would be if all we saw recorded of them after their encounter with Jesus was perfection? If those that were closest to Jesus still messed up from time to time, it gives hope to the rest of us! Again, thank the Lord for grace!!!
