Journaling through the Bible in 90 days: Day 12

Let your yes be yes and your no be no

Today’s Reading: Numbers 21:8- 32:19

Scripture: Numbers 30:2

When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.

Observation:

When you make a vow, hold to it

Application:

I want to be a woman of my word, always. I also want to do more than I realistically can do.

Both to God and to others I need to/ should think before I say yes– and only say yes if I really can and will do whatever I am saying yes to doing. I need to be honest with myself and others here. I need to make my yes be yes and no be no. No explanation needed, just honesty.

Prayer:

Father,

Thank you for your forgiveness when I mess up and don’t keep my vows.

I don’t want to do that. I want to honor what I say I will do… and I want to do way too much more than I can.

Help me to think deeply before making any vows and only assert those I can follow. And then, in knowing I am not perfect, thank you in advance for your forgiveness when I fall short.

I love you. I need you.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

  1. This is an excellent preparation for today’s reading. It is a reminder that I, too, need to be better at judicious use of YES and No.
