Just do it, even if it doesn’t make sense. Luke 5

If you are reading through Luke with us, today we are reading Luke 5. Here is what I heard using the SOAP devotional format:

Scripture: Luke: 5:5

Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

Observation:

What you are asking me to do doesn’t really make sense, but I am going to do it anyway because you told me to do it.

Application:

It isn’t up to me to make sense of what God asks or commands. It is up to me to simply have faith and do as told.

Oh, how often I say this to my kids! And I am just as guilty as they are. They question me, I question my Father and want to understand everything, but everything is not up to me to understand. It is just up to me to follow.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for loving me and guiding me, even when I question and hesitate. Please guide me, Lord, in hearing you more clearly and acting rather than wondering or trying to understand. I want to be like Simon an just do what you instruct.

What about you?

How do you react when given instruction by God?

What did you hear in Luke 5?

  1. I was struck by that verse too! Just do it, even if I question the wisdom. I decided to post about prayer today instead though, http://selaandfamily.blogspot.com/2011/12/soapluke-5withdraw-to-pray.html
