Push through the fear. Luke 1 (Part 1)

If you are reading Luke with me this month, today is our first day and we are reading Luke 1: 1-38. I used the SOAP devotional method and I invite you to join me. Here is what I heard:

Scripture: Luke 1: 29

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

Observation:

Even though the angel told Mary she was favored and the Lord was with her, she was still afraid, as Zechariah was when he was approached by an angel earlier in this text.

Application:

Sometimes God’s messages seem scary at first. But we are instructed to have faith, listen and follow God’s path.

Prayer:

Lord, I admit it, sometimes the word I hear from you puzzles me and pushes me into places I am not all that comfortable to explore. And yet, there is also so often this rush of excitement once I do realize it is you who is guiding me.

Help me, Lord, to continue to discern what is from you and what steps you have set before me to follow.

The simple act of releasing Bible in 90 Days online and inviting anyone who wants to host scared me at first, and yet I now know it is your will so that it can grow and reach those others you intend to reach that way. The new changes now exhilarate me as I think of the possibilities. And, as you know, there are so many other things like this (bigger and smaller).

Please, Lord, guide me. Help me to hear you. Please forgive me when I am filled with doubt or fear. You will not lead me astray. You know what is best. Please guide me in following you alone. And guide me in following boldly, without fear.

Please, Lord, also be with all those who are reading Luke along with me, or who will be joining us this month. Open their hearts. Open their minds and let them hear just what you have for each of them.

Thank you, Lord, for meeting with me whenever I ask. And thank you, Lord, for meeting with each of them, too.

What about you?

What did you hear in today’s reading?

How do you respond when you hear from God?

I’m so excited to be joining you again for another bible study! Here’s mine for today http://jewelsgems4.blogspot.com/2011/12/luke-1.html

  3. I don’t have a blog but I thought that I would share a summary here. S: v4 – certainty. O: Certainty is possible and Luke is writing so Theo can have it. A: Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word – keep reading! P: Please increase my faith and decrease my doubts as I read your word.

I have been feeling/knowing that I need to increase my Bible reading and decrease all other reading so I am adding Luke to my days. I don’t know if I will always be able to post here but I saw this on Facebook and knew that I should join you! Thanks for doing this.

    1. I’m so glad you are reading with us! Feel free to share your thoughts on the reading here anytime! :)

This is so true! God’s message can be so scary – especially when it’s really outside of what I’m used to. But every time I have stepped out in faith, I’ve never regretted it!! Great post! My post is here:

I needed to hear that nothing is impossible with God. Im struggling with many things in my life and I havent really brought it all to him and It just struck me that God will overshadow all things. He will provide. And I knew all thiese things but at this moment in my life I knew I needed to hear that again, reassurance. Im excited to do this reading with you. Ive never tried the SOAP method and really think Im going to continue using it.

    1. Lean on HIM and He will carry you through.. but I DO understand how tough that can really be!

I’m so glad you are reading with us and hope that you end up loving SOAP as much I do. It’s helped me a LOT!

      Welcome!
