Snap to action! Luke 2

Today we are reading Luke 2 as we read through all of Luke this month. Here is what stood out to me using the SOAP devotional format:

Scripture: Luke 2:16

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.

Observation:

Once they got the word from God, they took off and went to check it out.

Application:

When I hear from God, I need to just follow and do as instructed without hesitation.

Prayer:

Oh gracious Father, thank you for loving me and continuing to guide me, even as I dilly dally.

Guide me in becoming more action-oriented for you. Now I seem to want to mull things over and think out every point. Instead I need to listen, have faith and ACT, not ponder some more. Please guide me in being like those shepherds and jumping on the tasks you set before me.

What about you:

Do you jump into action, or do you mull things over a bit more than you should? How can you (and I!) overcome that?

Or, what did you hear in today’s reading?

  1. Over-analyzing decisions/options is something I’ve worked hard to stop doing. I used to act on my choices with confidence and quickness. Then I realized I was asking God to bless my choices rather than really seeking his. That was years ago. Then, as I worked to change, I began to over-analyze. God’s balancing me out now, showing me He holds results, not me. He holds the how, not me. Who am I to assume I know what will happen if I do this or that, etc? Proverbs 2:7-8 encourages me to walk obediently with Him and trust without overthinking.

S: v19, repeated in v51 – treasuring, pondering O: Mary was thoughtful. She treasured everything, both the wonderful (angels appearing to the shepherds) and the confusing (Jesus in the Temple). A: Treasuring everything that happens to me as a mother – the good and the bad – and pondering more than complaining – that is what I should be doing! P: O Lord, please remind me that I should treasure everything that you send me – joy and trials – because you are working out your will in my life. Give me wisdom to ponder and understand more than I chat and complain.

  3. I started following Proverbs in 31 days and now I am hooked on the bible. Doing Luke now…

  5. I am such a muller it’s horrible. I need to work on that. But like the shepherds sometimes when I hear from God I am struck with fear: http://www.christian-momma.com/2011/12/be-not-afraid-luke-2.html

I love what God showed me today. I’m so thankful that He takes the time to meet with me each day and whisper these nuggets of wisdom in my ear. I’m also very thankful to have this study to keep me accountable to a daily quiet time. They are making all the difference in my days! http://jewelsgems4.blogspot.com/2011/12/luke-2-treasure-up.html

Girl!! Sometimes it takes me a while to “snap to action” b/c I’m always second guessing myself! Was that really from God or is it just me? But if I’m in His word more often, I will begin to know more and more what a word from God “sounds” like and be able to just jump into action when I hear it. Great post!
