Psalm 42: Depression is real, but we will again praise Him once we make it through

bible-study-postHere’s what I heard in Psalm 42 using SOAP:

Scripture: Psalm 42: 11

Why are you cast down, O my soul,

and why are you in turmoil within me?

Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,

my salvation and my God.

Observation:

Why am I facing unrest and frustration?

I cannot let this bring me down, as things WILL get better and I will see Him.

Application:

Yep, there are moments in my life when I am in a funk. These moments can be, well, moments, or they can last a longer spell.

I cannot expect to have joy always. But I can still look for Him and have faith that I will praise Him again.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for this reminder that you are always here. Yes, there are times when I just can’t seem to get my joy on and there are times I feel stuck. Being able to reflect on your love and provision helps me to make it out of those moments and carry on.

Please be with all those who are in a bad place. And please help me the next time I fall. Help all of us to know that hope is there, that we will praise you in time. Please pull us out of the turmoil and let us know that, even as we toil and feel lost, you are here and we will again praise you.

Depression is real. Guide us through it when we face it and allow us to see you.

Thank you, Lord.

Amen
