What am I a slave to? Romans 6: 15-23

Today’s reading of Romans is Romans 6:15-23. Please consider downloading a Romans in 29 Days Reading Schedule and join in!

Here is what I heard:

 Scripture: Romans 6: 16

Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey– whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?

Observation:

We are slaves of something. Is it sin or righteousness?

Application:

What do my actions prove me to be a slave of? How can I be sure to choose to be a slave to obedience and, therefore righteousness?

Prayer:

Lord, please guide me in my day to day actions. Send up a red flag when I am not honoring you. I want to be your slave, not sin’s slave.

Thank you for your grace and love and forgiveness, for those times I slip and fall. Thank you for your reassurance in verse 22 where you remind us we are set free from sin and have become your slaves. I want to follow you. I want to be your slave. Thank you for taking me with open arms.

What stood out to you in today’s reading? Whom or what are you a slave to?
