Who knew Boy Scouting could make me cry?

Yesterday I finally made it to the Scout Shop to buy needed Tiger Cub supplies.

This is my son’s first year in Boy Scouts, something I hoped would happen and really just kind of assumed would happen.

My dad was a Boy Scout. My brother was a Boy Scout. I was a Girl Scout and my mom was our Brownie leader.

I took for granted that this day would come.

Walking into the the store I was greeted a by a smiling helper, who showed me what I needed to buy and offered advice here and there.

And I teared up when she handed me my little Tiger Cub Scout’s shirt. And I’m tearing up now as I type.

I had no idea this would be so special, but it is. He’s growing up. And he’s doing things my family has done for years. I loved scouting. And I think it stands for so many genuine, true and good things. I am so excited that he has begun this chapter. I am so excited to see him grow up… even if it makes me cry a little bit over silly things.

Cherish the moment and remeber there is more to come! Your Dad was a Boy Scout, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Ass’t Leader. Scouting is a good thing!

  2. It’s ok. I just wrote a post about crying over getting rid of my high chair.
