B90 Days Week One Check in

Wooo-Hooo! Here we are on Day One of the Summer 2010 Blogging Through the Bible in 90 Days/Bible in 90 Days session!

Today you should read pages 1-12 of The Bible in 90 Days Bible or Genesis 1:1- Genesis 16:16.

Here is a link to my SOAP observation from Day 1 earlier in the year.

I am so excited that you have decided to join approximately 425 others to read the entire Bible together with the MomsToolbox community and pray for and encourage each other in the process.

The Bible in 90 Days program is a ministry hosted in churches and communities all across the country. I was thrilled when Ted Cooper, the ministry’s founder (who facilitated the group I participated in to complete the Bible in 90 Days the first time),  allowed me to host a community on MomsToolbox in January. I have been amazed at how this online community has grown.

I base our program on the Bible in 90 Days’ Ministry program, with a few changes to accommodate our different needs.

As part of our program I require that you check in here on MomsToolbox within the weekly check in post every Monday between midnight CST and 2 a.m. CST Tuesday. The comments and link will close at 2 a.m. (or when I wake up Tuesday morning) in order to help you stick with the deadline.

(I know that may sound strict, but please trust me. This is our accountability tool and I need for you to honor it, even when you have to admit that you are behind. Just check in and move on. The we’ll all be praying even more so for you.)

Since we haven’t had much to read just yet, today I ask that you check in either by letting us know if you are up to date in the reading or share a few sentences about yourself and why you decided to join us. You may check in by leaving a comment on this post or using the Linky to link to a post on your own blog. If you do link a blog post, you must also link from your post back to this check-in post so your readers can learn more about the challenge (and potentially join us!!)

Then, make plans to join us for our first Twitter party tonight from 8-9 CST. Be sure to follow the #B90Days hashtag. For more on Twitter, please read this post.

(To leave a comment, click on the text that says the number of comments so far. That will open the comments to be read. Then scroll down and leave yours at the end.)

So…how’s it coming so far?

  1. Good Morning, I finished my reading. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to be at the twitter thing tonight, we may have family friends over. I’ll do my best. I need to remember to have something to write with and on so I can take notes and go back and research it later.

  2. Hi Y’all :)
I am a homeschooling momma of two teens, married to a fantastic man who is my best friend for 19 plus years now. I love to read and write and love people of all ages.
I’m excited to find this challenge, right as I was planning to tackle reading the Bible in 90 on my own. I’ve done many studies but never just focused on reading through the Bible.
For this challenge,I’m striving to simply read–no note taking, branching off to relevant verse, etc–which is very hard for me! But I’ve found that if I go on to note-taking, I end up spending all of my time writing instead of reading. I am, however, marking passages that speak to me with a post it note for later perusal. We’ll see how it works out!
This is my check-in note, as I completed the first 16 chapters of Genesis this morn…just before mixing up homemade ice cream and finishing up preparations for another day of summertime celebrating!
    ~Happy Reading and Happy Summetime!

  3. Done with day 1. My thoughts kept distracting me so it was a bit of a struggle.

About me: I’m Julie, a single 30-something living in West Michigan. I’ve been a Christian for much of my life, but have yet to read the entire Bible. My prayer for this journey is that God will show me more of who He is through this — so I can believe without doubt, believe without fear, and believe that He truly loves me.

  4. I’m Susan in NC….I’m reading on a little different schedule, but love the accountability of this challenge. Praying that this time in the Word will be a blessing to all who participate!

  5. Did it this morning. Excited about the things that struck me. Need to figure out a good way to record them. Where is that journal of mine? ;)

  6. I’m not participating this time, I’m reading a different schedule, but I’m praying for y’all.

  7. I am so excited to start with you guys. I attempted last time but got behind and just couldn’t catch up so I am determined this time to finish. The great thing that happened is that my hubby said he would do it with me! I am so excited that we can share this together. Have a great 1st day. By the way, I won’t be able to be with you on twitter on Monday eve until after mid August. We are doing the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University at our church every Mon night and won’t be home. I will meet up with you after that is done August 16!

  8. Hi! I’m actually on day 34 right now. I started at the end of May because I just couldn’t wait for July 5!

I’m due with baby #2 in December and I wanted to be totally certain I’d be done with my reading with tons of time to spare, so I could also have some time to go back and do some in-depth study.

I’ve signed up for the emails from the Bible in 90 page and they are helpful.

Reading has become a routine for me and it’s going well! I’m finishing up 2 Chronicles today and I’m 1/3 of the way done! I’ve never made it this far, and it’s great!

I think I will be popping in here for check-ins since I don’t have anywhere else to do so (if that’s ok).

I’m very curious to see what God will do through our reading the Bible in 90 days. I’m pretty sure that I’ve read all of the Bible in the 30+ years that I’ve known the Lord, but unless I’m in a Bible study I probably don’t read as regularly as I think. I’ve read the Genesis passage this morning and looked up a few questions afterwards. What an encouragement to know that there are so many others willing to give priority time to Bible reading. This is a good kind of craziness! I have a wonderful husband and three grown sons. I do have a part-time job, but if you moms with young children can find the time, I should have no excuse.

  10. Checking in … done the reading for today.

About me: I’ve been married for 29 years, have a 35-year old daughter, 4 grandkids (of which we have raised the oldest 2), and 1 great-granddaughter, with another one on the way. Read the Bible through many times on my own, this is my first time doing it with a group.

Looking forward to the next 89 days!

    Good morning
Read the first 12 pages. In my devotion book the headline for today’s devotion was: “Satan wants to destroy our dreams. God wants to surpass them.” (Beth Moore, Praying God’s Word Day by Day) What an appropriate reminder as I begin this dream of reading the entire Bible in 90 days.
    Blessings

Hi! Thanks for hosting this challenge!

I have two young children (almost 2 and almost 4) and a wonderful husband. I’ve never read through the entire Bible before, although I’ve tried several times. This has been a challenging couple of years in our lives, and even though we are busier than ever, and I am juggling parenting, working outside of our home, working on our own business (my husband works from home, and has for several years), and just all the other stuff of life, I’m looking forward to really getting into God’s Word and hearing him speak.

Getting in very late from fireworks (and traffic!) last night has thrown me off schedule this morning, but I’m planning to get back on track today and am heading to start my reading now!

  14. I am thrilled beyond words that I decided to take part in this challenge! It is only Day 1 and I am already feeling the impact of reading God’s Word! Thank you Jesus for leading me towards this challenge and help me to reach my goal!

I’ve never read the whole Bible through before and I’m excited about doing it! A good friend of mine told me about it and I’m thankful that she’s praying for me through this (I’ll need it!). We currently live in the Southeast, but in a couple of weeks we’re moving to London. I have no structure in my life right now and I’m looking forward to having some in this program. :o) This will be a good constant for me over the next few months as we’re getting settled and looking for a new church!

I started reading Saturday on the plane to get a little ahead. Every little bit will help as we go along! I look forward to this journey and am praying for the discipline to commit to the daily reading. I am a single girl with no kids, but have a busy, active life. See you all tonight on Twitter!

i am looking forward to starting this journey today. planning to do it at naptime so i can really be with the Lord with no interruptions. a few things about me:
~ i am a sahm of 4 kids: 12, 4, 2 and my baby is about to be 1 on friday!
~i have read through the whole OT before but never the NT.
    ~i live in ohio.
~i’ve been saved for 6.5 years.
~we are a homeschooling family so i’m a little nervous about keeping my steam once the school year starts.

i do have a blog, but i’m not really good about keeping up with it. i also have twitter and while i’m better with being on there i’m still pretty scarce. the best way to reach me is email and facebook. i’m on both several times a day. my facebook name is jeanine feldkamp.

  18. read my first days readings and went alittle into tomorrow’s oops!

  19. Checking in! I plan on reading this morning during baby’s nap. I haven’t read the entire Bible and am looking forward to reading it in 90 days.

  20. I haven’t read today yet, but I’m so excited to do this program. I have tried and failed at the one-year long programs, but I think that this 90-day program might be more do-able! I don’t do twitter and am using a regular Bible, so I hope those things don’t play against me!
Anyway, I’m 27 and a SAHM to 2 boys ages 1 and almost 3. Life is crazy, so I really need to start my day in the word so I have more patience!!

  25. Hi, I’m Samantha (Sam) I am 31, married 13 1/2 years to my high school sweetheart, Rick who is a minister. I am a SAHM, we are in the second year of homeschooling our 6 children, ages almost 13 to 2.

I have read through the Bible in a year, but that was 8 years ago. With all I have on my plate, time with the Word, and God is the thing that has been pushed back. I joined this challenge to turn that around!

    So thankful for Amy!

  28. Hello everyone! I’m so excited about this challenge!
I’m a SAHM homeschooling my two boys. We are a Navy family, currently stationed in Naples, Italy. I decided to join this group to learn more and love more, thinking it would be easier to teach Bible lessons with more Biblical knowledge.
I can’t wait to see what God has in store for all of us.
Happy reading and blessings to you all,

Morning!! I am a mom of four beautiful blessings (8, 5, 3, 7 months) and mostly a SAHM (I’m an accountant and work part-time mostly from home, although i’m on a year’s mat leave right now). My husband is the youth pastor at our church and I am involved in worship ministry as well.

Very excited for this challenge – I don’t think I’ve ever read through the entire Bible (embarrassed to admit as I have been a believer my entire life). I’ve been involved in a Precept Upon Precept Bible study for the last year or two and have loved the deep study of the Word and how the Bible is so alive to me now (even Leviticus, lol, that we’re currently studying!). I think reading through the entire story in 90 days will give me an awesome overview of the ‘big picture’ and I’m excited to be doing it!

I’m on Chapter 13…will finish up while nursing at keyboard ;) sometime this morning. If the kids cooperate I’m planning to be on Twitter at least on and off for the meeting tonight. : )

    Here’s my weekly check in:)

I’m a married mom of 4 kids in Ohio. I started the program last January, and went well for 30 days. Got behind but kept plugging on, although I pretty much stopped reading in early March. I’m excited to try again! I have finished day 1 reading, with many starts and stops due to people waking up, asking questions, and for some reason wanting to eat breakfast!

Hello! Today is a day off from work (yay!) so I’ve just finished my reading!

I don’t have a blog, so here’s my ‘howdy’ info:

I’m a 29 year old single gal, who’s been through a lot of tough things but has learned to REALLY rely on God. I wasn’t raised Christian but I got saved when I was 14 (a friend who witnessed tirelessly – may she be **forever** blessed!!!). I didn’t get really serious about living for God until I suffered some major consequences of bad decisions when I was 22.

Most folks would say I’m pretty analytical and intellectual, but I’m learning to walk by faith and not by sight (or logic, in my case!) I’m learning that God loves impossible situations and likes to make huge promises. I’m also learning that waiting on God is not about getting your result, it’s about what happens in your heart in the meantime. (That one I’m still REALLY working on!)

I look forward to getting to know you all more and I’ll see you tonight on twitter (if I don’t forget!!).

Blessings to our great God, and to all of you!!

  35. Just joined this group thanks to a post over at Home With the Boys. I’ve never read the the Bible all the way through so I’m excited.

  36. Good Morning everyone! I also posted a link to my blog post introducing myself above, but I also wanted to let you know Amy that on Saturday my family is leaving for a week long vacation in northern Minnesota. I will still excitedly be reading my Bible everyday while we are gone, but I won’t have internet access while we are away. I won’t be able to check in online on Monday, July 12th, but I will be back the week after.

  37. Today’s reading was easy to do since I loved to read Genesis. Hope to stay on track when we get to Leviticus!!! :)
I am 45 yrs old, been married to my high school sweetheart for 29 years (next month). We have three young adult children, and four precious grandchildren. My full-time job is at a local school system as a secretary in special education. And my fun part-time job is doing cooking shows and selling kitchen tools. So, like with most all people, time can be a challenge. I can’t think of a better way to know our Creator than to give Him back the time He has given us by spending it in His word.
    Praying for the group.
    Blessings,
    Deanna

  38. Good morning! My name is Kara, I live in Pennsylvania, & I am a married mother of 4 boys, ages 10 & under. I attempted the Bible in 90 Days Challenge in January & read until Day 34 (35?) before I let life get in the way & got off track. I have never successfully read the entire Bible before.

I finished today’s reading last night & am halfway through Day 2. I hope to stay a little bit ahead of the official reading plan, so that I have no excuses to not get through each day’s reading.

Here’s a little about me: My name is Terra and I live in Southeast Texas. I’ve read through Genesis and Exodus before but Numbers bores me and I haven’t ever gotten through it and I’ve read the Gospels, but that’s about it. 47. Hi, I’m from Philippines (a small country in Asia). I grew up w/ Roman Catholic religion, attend few Bible study in high school, joined a Christian church during college. Church issues make me leave church. I didn’t attend church for more than 10 years. Then last December, all of the sudden I felt a real strong hunger and longing for God. On January 2, I found B90 days challenge. And there God changed my life.

This is my 2nd time to read the Bible in 90 days challenge. This time I was able to convince my brother and father to join me. I bought Bibles, print the reading schedule and gave it to them. I’m quite surprise they accepted. Though they may not finish in 90 days… at least they are reading the Bible. I talked with some small church here also, and they are interested to introduce B90 challenge in their church.

I join this challenge again with a prayer that God will equip me and teach me – so I can share His love and His word to others.
