B90 Days Week One Check in

Wooo-Hooo! Here we are on Day One of the Summer 2010 Blogging Through the Bible in 90 Days/Bible in 90 Days session!

Today you should read pages 1-12 of The Bible in 90 Days Bible or Genesis 1:1- Genesis 16:16.

Here is a link to my SOAP observation from Day 1 earlier in the year.

I am so excited that you have decided to join approximately 425 others to read the entire Bible together with the MomsToolbox community and pray for and encourage each other in the process.

The Bible in 90 Days program is a ministry hosted in churches and communities all across the country. I was thrilled when Ted Cooper, the ministry’s founder (who facilitated the group I participated in to complete the Bible in 90 Days the first time),  allowed me to host a community on MomsToolbox in January. I have been amazed at how this online community has grown.

I base our program on the Bible in 90 Days’ Ministry program, with a few changes to accommodate our different needs.

As part of our program I require that you check in here on MomsToolbox within the weekly check in post every Monday between midnight CST and 2 a.m. CST Tuesday. The comments and link will close at 2 a.m. (or when I wake up Tuesday morning) in order to help you stick with the deadline.

(I know that may sound strict, but please trust me. This is our accountability tool and I need for you to honor it, even when you have to admit that you are behind. Just check in and move on. The we’ll all be praying even more so for you.)

Since we haven’t had much to read just yet, today I ask that you check in either by letting us know if you are up to date in the reading or share a few sentences about yourself and why you decided to join us. You may check in by leaving a comment on this post or using the Linky to link to a post on your own blog. If you do link a blog post, you must also link from your post back to this check-in post so your readers can learn more about the challenge (and potentially join us!!)

Then, make plans to join us for our first Twitter party tonight from 8-9 CST. Be sure to follow the #B90Days hashtag. For more on Twitter, please read this post.

(To leave a comment, click on the text that says the number of comments so far. That will open the comments to be read. Then scroll down and leave yours at the end.)

So…how’s it coming so far?

Started the reading for today, will finish the last 4 chapters after the kiddos go to bed.
I am looking forward to reading God’s word from start to finish! I have three kids, age 2, 6,and 7. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 8.5 years. I was really drawn to this challenge, and so glad that I found it today, the day that you started!

  2. I’m excited about this challenge, and a challenge it will be.
My husband of 12 years just returned from a deployment and we have 4 children ages 4, 5, 6 and 8. Finding time to read with everyone home is a challenge in itself. But I succeeded today and have Day 1 finished. I know this is what God wants to me to focus on in this stage in my life, reading wise anyway.
I hope to include the kids in reading a part each day at breakfast.
    Good luck to everyone!

When I came across this challenge, I immediately felt drawn to it — and decided it is something that I need to do. I’ve been a believer for 25 years and have never read the Bible cover to cover. I’ve tried many reading plans and have always failed. I like the accountability this plan offers – I’m gonna need it!

A bit about me — I’ve been married for almost 9 years and I have three young children (5 1/2, 4, and 7 months). Life is hard and stressful during this season of my life, but I’m convinced that I would find more peace and joy if I spent more time in God’s Word. I know I waste a lot of time during the day, so I’m hoping to replace some of my fruitless activities with Bible reading! Can’t wait to see what God will reveal to me over the next 90 days!

My name is Kirsten I am a pharmacy technician and a mother to two wonderful boys, Weston and Dylan I have been married for almost 2 years to my husband, Nathaniel. I decided to read because I saw the joy that my best friend had from doing this challenge in January and I want that same excitement and fulfillment!

  7. I did my reading for the day this morning and I am so excited!!! The last few weeks my love and desire for the word has continued to grow, I just can’t get enough :) I have been married to my best friend for 3 years (the end of this month) and we have 2 precious girls

  8. I have just finished the reading for today. I learned so much. I am so excited to continue on my journey.

I read my first reading sitting outside on my new porch swing! I work nights so tonight at work hope to read my next pages. I am a married mom to three great kids! I have a nineteen year old daughter, a sixteen year old son and my precious baby girl is twelve. I am a pediatric nurse and homeschool the twelve year old.

  11. So excited…haven’t done this before…but am apprehensive about the time commitment :)

    Read day 1! yea!!
I started the year trying to read through the bible in a yr, and got to april. Just so hard to read through the old Testament. But I will get it done this time!! Im a wife to a triathlete(who is not a Christ follower, please pray), a mother to 12 1/2 yr old girl, and 10yr old boy. A nurse in the NICU, and a Jesus freak!!

I was so excited about this I read today’s readings last night! I’m a bit intimidated by the entire process, so I hope I can keep up the enthusiasm. I’m a stay at home, working mom. I have children who are 2 and 4, and two more who are in college. Needless to say, my hands are full, but I’m committed to this challenge and am looking forward to finally reading the entire Bible. I’m 49 years old and am ashamed to admit I’ve yet to do this, yet this is my golden opportunity to do so.

Alright, I’m going to give this another try! I didn’t officially sign-up, so perhaps I can do that with this post?!? (

I attempted the reading earlier this year and made it through the first 36 days or so of reading and then I got behind….really, really “there was no way I could catch up” behind! So, here we go again! Day 1 is completed…only 89 more!

  15. Reading is done & linked to my blog for my intro. Not making any promise for the tweet time but I hope I can make it work.

    Day 1 completed.
On another note. Amy I got your twitter friend request email that twitter sends out. But I can’t access it on twitter to say yes. Not sure what’s happening.

  18. I just heard about this on twitter and would love to be a part of it! I will start reading NOW! :) I’m excited to be on this journey with everyone.

  19. I just finshed my 12 pages for the day! The verse that touched me the most today was Genesis 15:1 “After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Don’t be Afraid, Abram. I am your Shield, your very great reward.” Such a powerful and awesome statment, God truly is our shield and our very great reward. Those 12 pages flew by, before I knew it I was finsihed with Gen 16!

    Have a wonderful day everyone!

My friend and I are doing this together and I’m really excited. I got my reading done for today.

  21. Got my reading done for the day! Didn’t go according to plan but with 2 small children, I’ve learned that plans need to be flexible.

I’m very excited that my husband has agreed to read through with me.

I finished reading today’s chapters, and I feel great! I hadn’t been planning to participate, but I had seen this bible reading plan on a blog a few months back. I’d checked out the website and was really interested, but I never did anything about it.

I started reading the Bible all the way through in 2009. It’s now over halfway through 2010, and I still haven’t finished. I’ve got Jeremiah and Ezekiel left. So, when I saw on someone’s blog that they were starting the challenge today, I decided to sign up.

I can’t want to see what God does in my life through this. I am going to read through the Bible in 90 days. Then, I’m going to read Jeremiah and Ezekiel again so I can say I’ve read the entire Bible through, twice!

    Thanks for the encouragement!

So I found your site through a friend, and realized how this was God’s perfect timing for me to join in reading the Bible in 90 days. I’m 28 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and was put on bedrest last week for preterm labor. So now that I’m sitting at home, God opened a door for me to join in with this. I’m so excited to start this journey with so many of you. I pray that God truly touches each and every one of us!

  24. I just finished Day 1 reading and am excited to keep going! I have tried numerous plans before throughout the past few years, but have never been successful. I’m praying that the Lord will give me grace and perseverance to finish all 88 days of reading in the 90-day plan!

  25. I did my reading first thing this morning, after a bit of prayer and journaling. Found myself singing as I went about my morning. Went out this afternoon and had some vehicle trouble, and didn’t even realize until later that I didn’t get upset beyond the initial “oh, now, what now?” Had a discussion at the lunch table about a couple of things that I noticed in this morning’s reading that I never really paid attention to before. Good day for day 1.

  26. OK, here we go. I am also making my 13-year old son do it with me. His heart needs changing, and I know only the Lord can do that through His word! I couldn’t buy the Bible in 90 Days like I wanted because my husband has been out of work since right after Christmas, but praise the Lord, he found a job just this last Friday! God was good when we were without work, and God is good now. Amen?!?

But this will be a challenge for me. Thanks for the support!

  30. I started my reading – got through ch 1 -3 and will resume it this afternoon. Kids have been at grandparents’ house and are coming home today!! Will finish reading on my iPhone at the airport. Downloaded the app Holy Bible, and in it’s built in reading plan is the B90 plan! You can also choose your own version, which I like. I’m doing this challenge with the New Living Translation – personal preference over the NIV.
Excited to be doing the challenge!
Just wondering – does this count as my “check-in”? I am not blogging my way through the reading – so no site to link to.

    1. Yep, this counts as your check in. Thanks for doing it!

And thanks for your heads-up on the iphone app! Sounds like a great tool!!

I’m so glad you’ve joined us in the reading. :)

Hi, my name is Susan. Just finished today’s reading. I am determined, with God’s help, to complete the Bible in 90 days. I have read through the Bible before, but not for several years. I’m excited about how the Lord will use this in my life!

  35. Day 1 complete! So excited, I almost read it at 3 AM when I finished nursing my baby boy, but I waited until 5:20 when he woke up again. Then, I got to go back to sleep for another 45 minutes before the sound of little feet woke me up! If only it would be this easy every morning from now on! God is so good.

  37. Day #1 reading is complete! I am sooo tired today following a late night out at a July4th BBQ, but after doing my reading at lunch, I feel re-energized and ready to tackle the rest of the day. A little bit about me:

My name is Dineen, I’ve been married for 11+ years to Scott, my BFF. We have 2 adorable and funny kiddos – Francesca (8) and Gavin (6 1/2). I’m a pediatric RN, Girl Scout leader, PTO board member and 6th grade religion teacher. I’ve attempted twice before to read through the Bible in 1 year, and never gotten very far. But before I was doing it alone – now I’ll have 300+ new “friends” supporting me. Looking forward to reading everyone’s posts!

This is my second time reading through the Bible in 90 days. And this time I have 2 friends joining us on this journey. I have not read yet. My dog passed away this morning. :(

  39. I’m a newlywed (1 year) college student from Washington state who is moving to Oregon to continue my Bachelor’s degree in August. I started my reading this morning and will have to finish it tonight. I’m about to head out to start a new job in 15 minutes or so. Please pray that things go well and that I’m able to function! We had a late night with family visiting for the 4th and a long weekend, so I am pooped.

  40. I am so excited to start this challenge! I have done my day one reading and am ready to do this! I have tried several times to read the bible through and have never completely finished. I am looking forward to the accountability and prayers that come along with reading this time!
I am a stay at home mom to 3 wonderful children. I have 3 1/2 year old twin boys and I just delivered a beautiful baby girl 3 weeks ago.
My only concern with being able to accomplish this goal, is that tomorrow starts the first day of me being alone with 3 kids! My husband has gone back to work and my mom left and went back home! So not only do we have some adjusting to do in our regular home life, but I’ll have some adjusting to do to fit in my quiet time again.
I am excited that my mom is joining me on this challenge since I saw it through another blog while she was visiting with us!

  41. So happy to read the Bible through together!

  44. And day one reading is complete. Sometime, I’m really going to have to do this with a physical Bible rather than my iPad/iPod combo, because the kids should really see me reading, too.

Oh, well, they’re young and this works for me.

Hope to be at the Twitter chat tonight. You can read all about me on the last mentor post (I was first up) and I have a post on my blog about my sudden decision to read along. Tomorrow, I’m going to have a Top Ten List for the challenge :)

My name is Stephanie Edwards. I saw your challenge on a site and right now I can’t remeber which one. I remember Smockity Frocks doing this the first of the year. I have been battling some things with God and I believe this is what I need to lay to rest some thoughts and habits I have. God’s word transforms lives and having accountability helps. I wasn’t sure if I was going to do this because I saw it on Sat. night. This morning at Bible Study God led me to this scripture Pslam 119:165 “Great peace have they who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.” I need to fall in love with the Word and I need help to keep from stumbling. I look forward to the adventure.

  46. We are all set do go through as a family! Reading after dinner, with notebooks for each of us to write down questions and/or draw (for the little ones) what we liked best. My kids are 6 and 8 and none of us have read the Bible through, so we are excited!

  47. I actually read before doing my chores this morning!
I have never read through the Bible before
(that’s a very sad statement for me to make as I have been a Christian for more years then some of you have been alive!)
but…”the time has come, the walrus said…”
    and I must admit…
I am a little scared of what may happen because of committing to reading each day…the advesary always seems to know how to trip me up :(
    But ONWARD WE GO!!!!

This is my first time joining in on B90 and am embarrassed to say that this will be my first time reading through the Bible from cover to cover. I got up early today to start my reading. Knowing that I will be out of town next week, with little time to read, I am trying to squeeze in some extra chapters this week. Today I read through Chapter 19. I really enjoyed it. I’m actually hoping to sit down and read some more tonight.

I recently became a SAHM again after working as a church secretary for the last 5 years. I have been married 15 years and we have a 14 year old daughter. I homeschool her during the day and then in the evening persue my own business doing cooking shows and selling kitchen tools..

I haven’t done today’s reading yet as we are still at the lake, but plan to this evening. I’m looking forward to seeing what God has to show me during B90. I usually do the Bible in a year and think doing it this way will show me different things.

I won’t be able to do the Monday night Twitter parties for the most part as I have a meeting at church on Monday nights.

And I downloaded the B90 Bible to the Kindle app on my iPhone as I feel like for me having it with me always will give me a greater chance of staying caught up.

Looking forward to the fellowship too! :)
