I need to throw Baby Jesus away… but how can I?

Check out this Baby Jesus my two year-old “made” at church in December:

And she loves him. She kisses him, hugs him, and cares for him often better than her baby dolls.

But he is a potato. When is he going to start smelling bad? He’s already getting a little soft. But he is pretty cute. And she LOVES him.

  1. Easter is not that far away, perhaps you could come up with some way of using this as a learning opportunity by linking Baby Jesus to Jesus on the cross? Just a thought but I am so not creative and would never be able to come up with more than that LOL

Other than that, my best advice is involve her and see what she comes up with! Kids are much more creative than we are.

  2. Try and get a copy of The Potato People by Pamela Allen. It is a lovely story about a boy and his grandma. One rainy day they make some people out of potatoes. Then the boy goes away for a while, and while he is away the potatoes start to sprout. Eventually his grandma burys them in her compost heap. The potatoes grow. When the boy finally returns he and his grandma dig up the new potatoes, and then make some new potato people.

Perhaps you could read the book, plant the potatoes and then see what happens?

The other option would be to put toothpicks into the perimeter of your potato, put the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 in water and then you could watch it grow together. (I think for this to work you need to place the potato in the water into a dark cupboard for a few weeks).

  3. My husband says to just replace it with another potato, she’ll never know the difference… Typical guy response!!

I say get a smooth rock the same size and use that!! Then it will never go bad!! How do you make “fake” potatoes?? Isn’t there something with pantyhose? Maybe use that??

  4. I’m sure the Lord will understand. After all, doesn’t Scripture say His body will never see decay? LOL.
