Journaling through the Bible in 90 Days: Day 7

ONE WEEK, y’all! We have been reading the Bible for one full week today! How exciting is that??

I do hope you are enjoying the experience and finding ways to make this a lasting part of your life… or at least the next 73 days. (You can decide what happens next then.)

Tomorrow I will share reflection questions and materials for the next week. So, for now, let’s talk about today:

Today’s Reading: Exodus 29-40

Sabbath is a sign. You should honor it… even in busy times

Scripture: Exodus 34:21

Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.”

(There were several mentions of honoring Sabbath in today’s reading. I went round and round as to which verse to record. The last part really got me, though, so I went with this one.)

Observation:

The Israelites were instructed to observe the Sabbath as a sign and a reminder that God is sovereign. He knew that we would have busy times and He mandated we should still observe the Sabbath, even during those busy times.

Application:

I’ve done a pretty good job of observing this lately. But I could do better.

I need to structure my days and work such that I work on work days and then observe the Sabbath each week. I will get done what I really need to if I follow this. And I will be honoring and remembering God, my Creator.

Prayer:

Father,

You knew our hearts, our needs, and how our minds would work long ago. You want us to pause and reflect– to show our love in discipline and in refreshing. Please guide me in honoring you with a true Sabbath day every week, always. Thank you for designing me as you did and for instructing me to follow you. You have my best at heart. Thank you.

In Jesus name,

Amen
