Journaling through the Bible in 90 days: Day 8

Hello and good morning! Today there are two post for you. This one, which covers today’s reading, and also the Week Two post, which lists the reading for the week to come, some resources to help you with your week two reading and a few reflection questions. Be sure to take a look at that post if you haven’t seen it yet.

(The reflection questions are also in my book, Journaling through the Bible in 90 Days.)

Today’s reading: Leviticus 1:1- 14:32

Here is what I heard in today’s reading:

Scripture: Leviticus 10:11

“and you must teach the Israelites all the decrees the Lord has given them through Moses.”

Observation:

This passage comes just after 2 of Aarons’ sons do not follow the Lord’s ordinances and are killed.

God gave clear, detailed instructions to Moses as to how to handle sin, disease, what is safe to eat, and the like. He wants the people to know these rules so they will follow them. He instructs Aaron to share (and enforce) these decrees.

Application:

God gave clear procedures to follow. I believe He did this to keep His people safe, healthy and to guide them in remembering Him.

They were critical at the time.

I do not follow these today and, of course, every time I read I think about that. (I am not the expert here so I am not going to go into why. Stay tuned and keep reading, though.)

I do believe guidelines given to us by our Creator are given for a reason and we are to do our best in following them.

Prayer:

Thank you for giving us instruction on how to live then and now… and for your forgiveness through Jesus when we mess up. You have our best interests at heart always. Thank you.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
