Week 5 of the New Testament in 40 Days

Happy Monday and Happy May!

The weather is turning warmer and breezier which makes me want to read outside on our front porch and soak in the beauty.

In addition to reading the Bible, I’ve taken in some excellent fiction lately Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid is my latest. (WOAH! Lot’s to think about in that one!)

I have also been making my way very s-l-o-w-l-y through Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald S. Whitney. I’m praying about leading a read-through of that one here on MomsToolbox soon. It’s soooooo good. So stay tuned.

But, back to the New Testament…

Last week we read through the middle of 2 Corinthians and this week we will make our way all the way through James. I hope you have found a way to not just skim over the words, but soak in them, as well. There is so much beauty, instruction and love in there.

I’ve really enjoyed journaling a bit after I finish reading. First, I read through the passages, pen in hand, and underline anything that stands out to me. (Sometimes I’ll date what I underline, as well.) Next I go back and look at my underlines or search for anything that I felt spoke especially to me. Then I journal my thoughts, copying verses or passages that I want to underscore in my memory, and work through and record my thoughts on them. Last I write out a prayer in regards to what I heard. All of that helps me to find deeper meaning and make the reading stick.

Do you do anything like that? I’d love to hear about it!
